Our executive director, Ate Gwen, has been encouraging me to read one or two inspirational books in her collection. My reply has always been "books like that make me sleepy" or "I am very busy as of the moment". Without showing any trace of disappointment, she told me that such books may not interest me now, but the time will come when I'll need them and will look for them.
I guess this goes true to everything---people, things, events---in life. In my recent struggle, I could not find a more appropriate prayer than the one below. I have heard this many times before, but it is only now that this piece makes much sense and impact in my life. And I have Ma'am Aleta (our transient flatmate) to thank for. She mentioned this to me this morning while we were having breakfast. Hmmm, it must be true, angels do exist!

The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
